Our friends kindly invited us to spend a few days with them in a villa they rented for the summer in Portugal. They live in Hong Kong, so we don't get to see them often and jumped at the chance to spend time with them and their three energetic young kids. This part of Portugal, called Carvoeiro, is a town in the municipality of Lagoa, Algarve. Carvoeiro is approximately an hour drive from Faro airport. Walking around the main square, it's hard not to notice the number of families enjoying the sun and beach, as well as the countless number of English accents. As you can see from the photos, Cavoeiro has a stunning coastline with plenty of hills and sand beaches protected by cliffs.
The villa we stayed in was a 15 minute walk downhill to the main town square which is along the beach and scattered with restaurants and shops. There are a few tourism shops throughout the town that will book excursions, scooter and bike hires for you. We felt very relaxed during our visit and most of our days were spent in the villa's pool and enjoying good food, between home barbecues and visiting the many restaurants in town. We planned a bike tour one day, which took us exploring various parts of Carvoeiro, including up and down the many hills. I even had a treacherous tumble whilst filming down a very fast hill. During one of our excursions, we had planned to visit the famous caves along the coast by boat but somehow ended up on a dolphin sightseeing trip instead, which did include visiting some of the smaller caves. The rest of our time was spent sunbathing and swimming. I can see why this area of Portugal is so popular with British holiday goers, it has nearly 300 days plus of sun, great food, and reasonable rentals and adventures for everyone. If I get another invite *hint *hint, I'll be there!
